Wedding Gift Lists and Ideas

7 February 2012 No Comment

Wedding gift lists are one of those things that receive a ray of emotions from those on the receiving end. Where some may welcome them, others get offended. Wedding lists often relieve the stress that guests may have choosing gifts, however some guests may feel insulted because it shows that the couple are expecting gifts of a certain value.

However, wedding gift lists are really practical – it prevents the bride and groom receiving multiples of the same gifts, and enables them to receive gifts that will come into good use.

There are two types of wedding gift lists available: those that are readily available from department stores and amended by the bride and groom and those compiled by the bride and groom personally. Online wedding gift lists have become popular over recent years – the list is put together by the bride and groom who specify where their guest can buy the gifts from.

Large department stores provide a service for wedding gift lists. There bride and groom will make up their list from items in their chosen store who will then manage the list on their behalf.  When the bride and groom hand invitations out they also include details of how they can order the gifts. When a gift is bought they will ensure that it is crossed of the list and kept aside for the bride and groom to collect once they have returned from their honeymoon.

Wedding gift ideas

When compiling a wedding gift list you need to think beyond toasters and cutlery. Nowadays, many couples enter married life already owning their own home, therefore it is important to think about the presents you need and would like rather than the gifts you could do without.

Think of items more unusual, that you do not already have. When compiling your list don’t just pile it up with luxury wedding gifts that will cost your guests a fortune, mix it up a bit with some relatively cheaper items. Have items ranging from £15 and up – this way your guests won’t feel like they have to break the bank for a wedding gift that you would like.

When building your list, think of the theme of the rooms in your home and set out the gifts to match the interior décor. If you are looking to redecorate your home come up with gifts that will match your new interior such as throws or lamps.

Ensure there is plenty of variety on your list. This will allow your guests to feel as though they are selecting something personal.

Include fun items on your list – things that you would love but wouldn’t normally buy yourself. The fun gifts are the ones that are remembered for years to come.
